Safety Zone

To All C.C.C.C. Members,

On Monday, November 18, 2019, Crooked Creek Conservation Club and the Ashtabula County Sheriff's Department were notified of an incident that occurred on our property involving hunters. A house bordering our property on Route 534 was sprayed with shot from hunters shooting birds left over from a field trial held the previous day. This incident has led to the establishment of safety zones in an effort to protect our neighbors as well as the interests of our club. Poor decisions and indiscriminate use of firearms by our members cannot and will not be tolerated. These zones will be posted as soon as possible. In the meantime, all members are to refrain from shooting within 150 yards of any dwelling. We as sportsmen and shooting enthusiasts need to set the example of safe and responsible gun handling. One individual’s refusal to pass on a dangerous shot has placed us all in question. In researching the establishment of the safety zones, we found that Ohio law states that no weapons may be discharged within 400 feet of any building without permission. So not only were common sense protocols ignored Ohio law was also violated. We were unable to positively identify the person responsible but hope they realize their error and are ashamed of themselves and the cloud they've placed over us all.

Remember, while hunting on club grounds all state and federal laws and bag limits apply. Happy hunting and have a safe and happy Thanksgiving.

Sincerely,

Your C.C.C.C. Board of Trustee's
