American Rimfire Association (ARA) matches starting in June 2024

We have exciting news regarding a new shooting activity coming to Crooked Creek in the early summer of 2024. Crooked Creek is becoming a sanctioned member club of the American Rimfire Association [ARA] for the purpose of offering scheduled Sanctioned Benchrest matches. Our benchrest program is planned to start in June of ’24 and run through November of 2024. We will initially be running at least one monthly weekday match beginning in June for the balance of the season. One monthly weekend match will be potentially added in September and conclude in November of 2024. Beginning in 2025, we will be offering two matches per month [1 weekday / 1 weekend] from March through November, This will become our typical schedule for the season. Dates and times will published on the American Rimfire Association website: Schedule We expect to have our formal schedule posted in early May 2024.

About ARA

The ARA is a sanctioning body for .22lr bench rest competitions.  Both the Unlimited and Factory class have 20 minutes to shoot a 25 bull target for a maximum score of 2500.  For the official rules click here.  To view the schedule please click here.  And, to see the ARA target click here.

A Little History:

ARA was started in April 1998 by a group of .22lr shooters who wanted a great organizaion for competitive .22lr benchrest competition. They formulated the ARA statistics on which the awards are based and they kept up with all match reports and shooter statistics. In addition, they started the ARA News and the ARA website in an effort to get the information out to all ARA participants. In 2010, ARA was bought by Dan Killough, whose goal was to continue the vision of the ARA founders by providing an honest competiitve organization that is true to .22lr shooting. One of the most exciting changes Dan introduced in the ARA is the implementation of electronic scoring, which makes scoring targets faster and unbiased. Electronic scoring is optional but encouraged for all ARA clubs. In 2017, The ARA organization was acquired by ELEY INC, who continue to promote and expand 22lr competitions. ARA has clubs across the United States offering  ARA matches and tournaments to anyone interested in precision .22lr bench rest shooting.

Our matches will accommodate up to thirty registrants [10 per relay] including Unlimited and Factory Class shooters. The existing west 50yd range will be used to accommodate this shooting program.  New masonry and concrete benches will be installed on a new concrete pad in the spring offering the perfect platform for our ARA matches. Like other sanctioned matches already in place at Crooked Creek, our benchrest matches will require a match registration fee for all participants. Non Crooked Creek members will be welcome to register for our matches as well.

We encourage you to join the American Rimfire Association which enables you to have your scores listed and ranked on their website both nationally and by state. There is no cost to join and you will be given a membership number for use when registering for a match. Join here: ARA Membership
