October 1st Rifle Program Newsletter

If you opened this expecting match scores, you weren't looking out the window Saturday morning. The rifle season at Crooked Creek ended as it began, with a wash out.

I was remiss in not canceling the event on Friday. When we arrived to set up on Saturday morning, the ranges were simply unusable. And with a 25-mile-per-hour wind blowing cold rain in the shooters' faces, it would have been ugly.

To the the hardy and foolish few who arrived ready to shoot, I apologize. Your mothers would be disappointed that you lacked the sense to come in out of the rain. To those who awoke, looked outside, and went back to sleep ... your mothers would be proud. To the volunteers who arrived ready to work, thank you.

I welcome your comments regarding the season just ended. What did we do that we should not have? What should we do that we did not? What should we do differently? If you did not shoot with us regularly, why not? What could we do to get you to shoot more? Your comments will help us plan the 2012 season. I'm sorry, but we cannot do anything about the weather or the price of gasoline.

Normally, over the winter, I purge our email list of those who did not shoot with us the previous season. This winter, I won't do that or the list would end up pitifully short.

Let's hope for better weather and a better economy in 2012. And I hope to see you on the range. The Crooked Creek Rifles' schedule will be published in February or early March. It will also be posted on the Club's website (www.crooked-creek.org).

Thanks to our competitors and our volunteers. Have a happy Halloween, a happy Thanksgiving, a merry Christmas, and a healthy, happy, and prosperous New Year.
