September 17th Rifle Program Newsletter

A comfortable fall-like day greeted the 10 competitors who joined us at Crooked Creek for Smallbore Silhouette and CMP Rimfire Sporter matches. The low turnout meant lots of shooting for those who did come.

A welcome to first-time Crooked Creek competitor Matyas Kovach. We hope you'll join us again.

This was the final Smallbore Silhouette match of 2011.

Our season finale at Crooked Creek is Saturday, 1 October 2011. Please note that this event is less than two weeks away, on the first, not the third Saturday of October.

CMP John C. Garand Match. Besides Garands, M1 Carbines, M1903 Springfields, and other vintage military rifles are welcome to shoot their specific matches. Rifles conforming to the CMP definition of service rifle are welcome to compete, too. All matches are reduced to 100 yards.

CMP Rimfire Sporter Match. There are three classes, Telescopic Sight, Open (iron) Sights, and Tactical Rimfire. Matches include prone, seated, and standing, rapid and slow fire, stages for a total of 60 rounds. Rimfire Sporter is designed for the .22 that everyone has in their closet. You don't need a fancy target rifle to compete. In fact, they're not legal! Our matches are fired at 50 feet.

There will be three relays, 0900, 1030, and Noon. Registration opens 30 minutes before each relay. Please be on time.

There are 10 Rimfire Sporter and 8 Garand slots on each relay. I'd recommend contacting me to reserve your slot. The cost is $10 for your first match, $5 for the next.

Come on out and help us wrap up our season.
