May 7 Rifle Program Newsletter

We caught a break and the weather turned out beautiful for our matches last Saturday. We had rescheduled the washed-out Rimfire Sporter match from April.

Eighteen shooters turned out and fired a total of 22 matches. We had several shooters new to Crooked Creek. We hope you had fun and that you will join us again.

Our next event will be Saturday, 21 May. Crooked Creek will host our usual CMP Rimfire Sporter match and our first Smallbore Silhouette match. Silhouette matches will not be sanctioned this year, but we will follow NRA rules. Silhouette course of fire is 40 rounds fired at metal targets placed at 40, 60, 77, and 100 yards. You only get one shot per target. Scoring is hit or miss. All shooting is off-hand, slow fire. Serious silhouette rifles get pretty fancy, but the Hunting Rifle class is similar to Rimfire Sporter. Maximum weight is 8.5 pounds, Minimum trigger pull is 2 pounds. No bull barrels. There is no limit on the power of optical sights. A match takes about an hour.

Silhouette matches will be fired on our 100-yard range. Only four firing points will be available per relay, so if you want to get in on the fun, I'd suggest calling or emailing me for a reservation. If there is sufficient interest, we'll run four relays.

The next John C. Garand matches will be Saturday, 4 June. There will be no Rimfire matches that day.

Thanks to all who turned out last Saturday. Special thanks to our hard-working volunteers, without whom we could not do what we do.

C-ya on the range.
